School start times and its effects on Students
If you were tired and were really un-alert, how would you execute at your occupation? Not really good, how do instructors, parent and rules expect us, the pupils, to execute at the highest degree we can without acquiring the slumber needed to make that? I believe school should get down later in the forenoon, because surveies say that pupils have been more watchful. If pupils are more alert they are more likely to make good in there academic surveies. The people who are for get downing school subsequently in the forenoon are pupils, parents and some principals. These people are for this, because in the surveies that have been conducted pupils have gotten better classs and there has been less student related auto wrecks. ââ¬Å" There are informations that demonstrate that deficiency of slumber has negative effects for teens, and some informations show that younger drivers are more likely to hold accidents when they have unequal slumber â⬠Verona, 1 ) . Although these are good grounds to be for this, there are some people that do differ, including some principals, who think it wont work, and parents who think it will cut into there work clip to take pupils to school, and the pupils who think it will impact extracurricular activities. Some principals think that if they start school subsequently that they will be pampering the adolescents, and it will non school will non learn adolescents good wonts. Besides some parents think that it ââ¬Ës non the schools mistake, but the adolescents, they say adolescents stay up excessively late, and besides they say that the teens do n't give themselves plenty to kip. Some parents say that if the schools start subsequently, the teens wo n't hold any clip to make what they need to acquire done after they get out of school. The experts say that schools get downing later may be indulging them a little excessively much. If you think this, here are some grounds that might carry you to exchange sides. With the earlier start times pupils have been less down, non merely did the instructors say this, but the foremans of the pupils who had after school occupations had said that the pupil is less down and is working harder to make better in his occupation. Even if the classs did n't travel up, the attempt is at that place. Edina and Minneapolis, two schools that have made the alteration to get down subsequently, there after school patterns may hold been shorter, but these two schools have competed the same, if non better, than they have in the past old ages. Some schools are taking action into doing excess curricular activities work. There have been studies of schools shortening all of the categories and alternatively of to two yearss that are spread out its one large long twenty-four hours so that the agenda would work. The mean adolescent needs up to nine hours of slumber or even more on a given dark to work decently the following forenoon. Kayla Wahlstrom has done surveies with all kinds of different schools. ââ¬Å" Students have reported less depression when there was a ulterior start clip ; instructors reported that pupils were more watchful and ready for the school twenty-four hours â⬠( Wahlstrom, 1 ) . Wahlstrom besides found that there were less bead outs when schools started after 8:00 a.m. 20 % of pupils fall asleep in category everyday. Experts say that the start of simple school times and high school start times are switched. If the start times were based on the sleep rhythms of pupils, high school would get down subsequently and simple would get down earlier. Adolescents are at there deepest slumber two hours before they wake up. If something interrupts that period of slumber, say waking up for school, it can go forth teens sleep deprived, dazed and un-alert, down and will non desire to larn. A survey at St. Georges High School says that since they have been get downing later, pupils have reported holding better tempers towards instructors, arrived to category on clip, and has even eaten a better breakfast. If the pupils eat a better breakfast so ââ¬Å" Sleep want can impact temper, public presentation, attending, larning, behaviour and biological maps â⬠( Sheldon, 2 ) . ââ¬Å" Sleeping is like eating, it is executing a biological map that is required â⬠( Sheldon, 2 ) Some pupils think this is an exceptionally good thought, as you would conceive of. There was a survey done at Walter Johnson High School in Bethesda. Here was what a couple pupils had to state about get downing school in the ulterior hours of the forenoon. ââ¬Å" If I was able to acquire more slumber in the forenoon, I would be able to remain awake in all my afternoon categories â⬠( Nazdin, 3 ) . Although some pupils think this is a really good thought, some do n't. There have been studies where pupils think this should n't go on, because they think it will interfere with the after school activities, such as, occupations athleticss and jobs that need to be done at place. The National Sleep Foundation ( NSF ) did a random survey on pupils go toing Harrington High School. Here are the statistics of that survey. 78 % said that it was hard to acquire up in the forenoon. 16 % said they thought they got plenty sleep. 70 % said they thought their classs would better. 90 % thought that the faculty members of the whole school would better. Besides the pupils said they did non experience alert or prepared to take a trial in the forenoon. The pupils besides said that they think the ideal clip to take a trial is 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Most pupils are taking trial at 8 or 8:30 in the forenoon, this clip is when pupils need to be merely waking up, non taking trials. A survey showed that pupils who took trials in the afternoon have gotten better trial tonss than pupils who took trials in the early forenoon. You may non believe me but the statistics do n't lie. Every school that has been tested with get downing school subsequently, the classs have been better, attitudes happier, less drowsing and less childs falling asleep in category. If the schools do start later they will see dramatic alteration in the classs, attitudes and there will be less auto wrecks. All this information above supports this. In the province of Rhode Island, 201 schools have changed their start times and all have had additions in things I ââ¬Ëve told you that they would increase in. ââ¬Å" I think the grounds truly is mounting that it ââ¬Ës an project that ââ¬Ës good deserving at least sing â⬠( Owens, 4 ) . Schools need to get down get downing later in the forenoon if they want to get down holding better classs, fewer dropouts and less auto wrecks. Most pupils start at that place twenty-four hours at 7:30 in the forenoon. For at least 75 % of those pupils that is manner excessively early. Like a said before, adolescents need the lower limit of nine hours of slumber, and merely 22 % of pupils get that nine hours of slumber. The pupils that get the sum of slumber that is recommended for adolescents will be the 1 who get better classs feel better about themselves because they ââ¬Ëre acquiring better classs, and they will be less down. The pupils will be more up-beat and more watchful if they had non gotten adequate slumber. My point is schools need to get down get downing later in the forenoon. If they do n't, pupils will maintain dropping out and maintain acquiring bad classs. If we start subsequently, none of the bad things will come to the pupils if we would hold started subsequently in the forenoon. In decision, schools all around America need to get down subsequently, as you can see a batch of bad things can come to your pupils if we do n't get down categories subsequently, including bad classs, depression, and bead outs these are all grounds why schools need to get down subsequently.
Acoustic Design in Architecture
IntroductionThe intent of this study is to bring forth a design strategy for the transition of a big room to a multi usage theater. The study will show the necessary things that need to be considered to guarantee a satisfactory acoustic environment by mensurating the jobs encountered with acoustic design and how to undertake them. The study will look at the jobs related to this infinite and present possible solutions and recommendations based on the information available. Initial programAs in every instance, this room presents it ââ¬Ës ain alone set of jobs, which involve really common factors such as the form and size of the room, the intended usage of the infinite, the budget and the basic Torahs of acoustics. The phase will be best positioned at the Centre of the E wall, as shown in Fig.1 The audience deepness will be shallow and broad so that the best can be appreciated from a presentation or public presentation both visually and acoustically. More significantly, the sound making the audience will be equally distributed. With the phase positioned on the E wall, the obvious measure is to put the commixture desks and equipment storage in the boxed country opposite the phase. The walls are made of gypsum board. The room measures 15.176m broad and 12.176 long with an excess ââ¬Ëpocket ââ¬Ë on the side mensurating 5m by 3.396m. The seating capacity will be about 80-100. Problems Although this is the logical manner to place the phase and seating, there is a large job with the design that needs to be ironed out ; the roof is high and airy on one side of the room yet low and dense on the other. As symmetricalness is critical in acoustic design, this is a large job. However, troubles would besides originate if the phase were positioned at one of the narrower sides of the room because the audience would still non acquire even sound distribution. The Windowss pose another large job for the proposal of the design. If they were a coveted characteristic a sound-reducing window could be fitted, but these are expensive and normally favoured in entering studios or topographic points where ocular presentation is non involved. For the intents of this undertaking, which must suit controlled lighting and projectors, daytime and the alterations in daytime would be unacceptable. The demand for Windowss in this instance is excess. The undertaking support can non justify electrical devices to command echo but sufficient committedness demands to be made towards sound support. For the intent of leasing the infinite to administrations outside of the university, it needs to be classed as a music locale, which brings with it it ââ¬Ës ain set of demands in footings of equipment and care every bit good as in the acoustic design.Trials with sound inside the infinite demand to be conducted before the talker agreement can be determined.Solutions and recommendationsWalls The wall opposite the phase will necessitate diffusors to administer or absorb the sound and modulate echo clip. Curtains along the dorsum of the phase country will give more options once the locale is up and running and could besides be extended to the North and South walls, in add-on to the absorbers and diffusors. Rigid Rocksil walling is first-class, but expensive. There are many fiberboard solutions on the market, which would be a cheaper option. These can be screwed to the bing wall. Floor A inexpensive and effectual option for the floor is heavy felt carpet carpet pad with a tight rug on the top. An attractive, but more expensive option would be to put wooden flooring over the top of the thick carpet pad ; the difficult surface of the wood could heighten the sound quality ; excessively much soft trappings may ââ¬Ëdeaden ââ¬Ë the sound. Ceiling The best solution to the job with the ceiling is to happen a balance between the sound generated under the high ceiling, with that being generated under the low side. As the country on one side of the room will hold a different sound quality to the other side, absorbers need to be fitted to the high ceiling to antagonize echo and a set of diffusors to the low ceiling to maximize the quality of the sound, ( see figure 2 ) . An aesthetic characteristic can be made of the high subdivision of the ceiling utilizing the reflectors and absorbers. Windows & A ; doors The solid fire doors will non leak much sound. Vibration leaked through the doorcase can be greatly decreased utilizing doorcase sound gaskets. The Windowss would be best removed or blocked with absorbers. An air conditioning system will necessitate to be installed, even if the Windowss remain, air conditioning is still perfectly necessary with so much insularity. Free standing absorbers Another ideal manner to add flexibleness to the working design of the studio is to include freestanding sound absorbers, deflectors and diffusors. These can be moved around to suit with the nature of public presentation or presentation and the size of the audience. They can besides be usage made without excessively much disbursal. Decision The initial job facing this undertaking faces is the multi intent usage for which it has been designated and the flexibleness that is required from the finished design. Live music and address require different methods of application in acoustic design. Address and play public presentations depend mostly on design made with good intelligibility in head, where as acoustic design for music locales needs to take other factors into consideration that may non work out best for address and frailty versa. In add-on to this, The University has limited financess for the undertaking. The of import factor here is that the design must be finished to a competitory criterion and the locale must be able to run swimmingly if The University is to do the theater a commercial success.More research needs to be carried out inside the room to find how, precisely, the issue with the ceiling can be decently resolved. The acoustics of the infinite will necessitate to be tested before work is carried out, utilizing a little sound system that can set up the extent of alteration in sound from one side of the room to the other. How Films Change Perception Essay
There are many ways in which movies or films may become art. Art can be expressed through color, angles, character development, plot, even scenery; or all of these combined. In the movie Il Postino there is a certain art of the film which allows the viewer to become part of the story, to fall in love as the characters fall in love, through the expression of words and moments. This paper will focus on how movies or films help in changing a personââ¬â¢s perspective through the use of characters, plot, scenery, camera angles, filter use, and the overall ambience of a film, mainly focusing on Il Postino. A film is a gateway by which the viewing audience is immersed in another personââ¬â¢s life which includes their family, their culture, and their environment. Due to the relationship which the camera has with the character, the audience feels as though they too have a bond with the protagonists of the film. By extension then, the charactersââ¬â¢ life becomes the audienceââ¬â¢s reality. The brilliance of movies is that there are so many ways in which to depict varied cultures and for each film there is a chance for the audience member to exchange, expound, and change their own perspective in light of the information they are given from the charactersââ¬â¢ lives. It is through this part of the film, the expression of love in its diverse and dynamic multidimensional forms that the viewer is allowed to partake in the film, be hypnotized with the characters and it is this that makes Il Postino an art film, and how it can change an audience members own perspective. Films are not only seen as an art form, but they are also used in a cultural context in order to present to the viewing public historical events. These historical events may be subject to biases such as in propaganda films (D. W. Griffithââ¬â¢s Birth of a Nation) or they may present documentaries in which plan objectivism is the point of the film (i. e. Bushââ¬â¢s Brain). A film does not only transport the viewer into different cultures but gives the world a chance to see the unfolding of history through the perspective of the people who lived through it such as films documenting the effects of Hiroshimaââ¬â¢s bomb, and the radiation which ensued directly afterwards with first person accounts. Therefore the lens of history is unclouded with such unbiased documentaries. Films are also a means of therapy and identification. Some films are so profound in their depiction of a characterââ¬â¢s life that the audience member completely identifies with that person and a sub-cult forms based on the movie. These sub-cults can be seen with the movies The Godfather, Rocky Horror Picture Show, or even Psycho. In these films an audience member can identify or want to encompass the way of life of these characters to such an extent that they may go and join the mafia, become transsexual, or even become an integral part of the Hitchcock fan base in which pure horror is the objective of the movie, ââ¬Å"Shots of Gothic manors lit by lightening, of shadows glimpsed under doors, or of a hand gliding along a banister, are examples of the ââ¬Ëspectacular meansââ¬â¢ of horror; they are the kind of devices that have been used so often that they have come to define the genre of the horror movieâ⬠(White The Poetics of Horror 1). Thus, movies go beyond displaying forms of a culture and begin to instigate their own subcultures. More subcultures will form from a movie that is subjective in which the audience member can come closely to identifying with the main character. The objective films in which an more omnipresent perspective of the unfolding of the lives of the main characters is not warranted to becoming a sub cultural formation but has its own merits nonetheless. In the way in which the main character Mario lives, in his final act of love for the poet Neruda is found this close perspective of the film. It is not because the film is about poetry that makes Il Postino an art film that audience members identify with but rather is it how the characters embrace their own personalities, their own loves and destinies that transforms the film from one of typical romance into great romance. The transformation of these two protagonists is the center of making this film art. Their responses to one another, their paradigm of poetry and love of life allow the viewer that voyeuristic look into the charactersââ¬â¢ reality. This is what art does, this is why the movie is art. Even the final act of Beatrice giving Neruda Marioââ¬â¢s tape recorder is an act of poetry, a final salute the two friendââ¬â¢s past. The unfolding of their lives becomes a poignant moment in the audience memberââ¬â¢s lives as well since the movie showed a close perspective of the protagonistsââ¬â¢ lives. Films also have a heavy impact on a personââ¬â¢s life when the point of the film is to present the audience with propaganda, especially during wartime. In the British side, the official task of the War Propaganda Bureau headed by Lord Northcliffe was to alter the minds of the British into thinking that the warââ¬â¢s aim was to stop the nearing catastrophe the Germans and their allies created. Indeed, the war was molded in that concept and fed to the people. However, the extent of mid-altering and opinion-swaying came to an extent never before imagined. The meaning of propaganda clearly states that it the most legal way of changing the mindsets and perceptions of people; and only a powerful institution can do such a thing, for no individual or government can uphold and spread propaganda without sufficient resources. In the aim of altering or distorting the peopleââ¬â¢s emotions, a government has to adopt utmost carefulness in order to achieve its goal of merging together all the peopleââ¬â¢s sentiments and turning it into a national mindset. Propaganda is the intentional, organized attempt to mold perceptions, alter understanding and dictate behavior to garner a response that will suffice the wishes of the propagandist. War propaganda was born in the World War I. In a war, the side which employs a more powerful and thought-penetrating propaganda despite disadvantage in strength and in number, possesses the innate advantage. This was done to maintain the morale at home and be in perfect synchronization with allies abroad. The British propaganda was the most superior and was even highly regarded worldwide even by their German foes. Propaganda, as it was utilized in World War I, was the ruination of the human soul. The British were best at doing such defilement. Lumley (1933) stated that propaganda is the intentional effort to affect the minds and emotions of people. On the other hand, the Germans at the start of the war had experienced the culmination of their governmentââ¬â¢s own propaganda, the Spirit of 1914, as German propagandists made the citizens particularly the elite classes perceives the upcoming war as a means of unifying the peoples of Europe. By the end of the war, the Germans saw it as a distant memory and a misleading notion. There one could conclude regarding the striking contrasts between the propaganda of Britain and Germany. Germany, as well as the other nations of the Central Powers led its people to believe that the war to be waged was to achieve a noble cause whilst Britain led its people to see the war as a means to putting a halt to the advance of the German militaristic menace. To guarantee that no additional or unwanted knowledge flowed into the public and for the governments to at least give the people some information just for the sake of informing them, all sorts of information were filtered. Information media were tight and under scrutiny. Media, like the newspaper for instance, print filtered news that is sanctioned by the government because if otherwise, they will be the subject of penalties. The government made people read what they only want them to read. For example in Britain, censorship was the key ingredient because newspapers were run by the media barons who were more than willing to cooperate. They helped print headlines which made emotions of the British civilians surge in anger, depicting Germans in utmost cruelty and picturing the German leaders as bellicose bullies. Inevitably, across in Western Europe the same was also happening in Germany, where the authorities propagandized the British as sadistic towards their German captives. In all of the countries, propaganda was also behind the altering of casualty figures which were lessened considerably to make the people optimistic of the outcome. Just as films are maneuvered to present a specific and altered point of view during a war, or a film presents the viewer with point of view perspective of a culture, so too does a film bring forth international cultures that reflect a specific country. This view point can be seen in films such as Amelie in which the protagonist searches the film through for a boy who dropped a picture book, and the reflection of quirky natures of the main characters is portrayed and the way in which the French easily examine sexuality in the film (as in the scene where the man works in a sex shop). Films are not only used to portray and represent different cultures to the audience but they may also be used for educational purposes. This goes beyond the scope of sex education films but can also include driving safely videos, or even military outfits gain instruction from a film on how to survive out in the wild. Despite all of the facets that a film may provide for an audience member; be it differing views on culture, educational purposes, propaganda, the main purpose, and the one that makes all of the others seemingly obsolete is that of the movieââ¬â¢s entertainment value. Audience members attend films in order to escape their own reality for a while, the immerse themselves in another personââ¬â¢s perspective, their reality. Thus, movies perform a function in society of entertainment, of escapism, of fantasy, and that is their main appeal. Works Cited Carrol, Noel. Plastic Surgery Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words - 1
Plastic Surgery - Essay Example This ideal person is usually someone of a mid-20ish age, slender, with specific measurements and a certain good-looking charm. This limited view automatically rejects anyone with a larger bone structure or other ââ¬Ëdefectââ¬â¢ from being socially acceptable. Those who can both afford to purchase the ââ¬Ërightââ¬â¢ look and who are fortunate enough to be a candidate for surgery are seen to have the ideal life. Their outward appearance automatically indicates they also have wealth, happiness and freedom. However, even for these people, this restricted view of the ideal has several negative effects on the individual as well as society. With so much attention given to the way a person looks on the outside as being the only social measure, there is very little room for internal characteristics to receive their rightful attention. People also spend so much time obsessing about the way they look that there is little time or energy for personal development. This shallow, obsessi ve view can be especially seen in the alarming numbers of teenagers, both male and female, seeking plastic surgery, because it can be potentially harmful to the individualââ¬â¢s psychological nature and physical health, and as it is perpetuated by their role models and peers and encouraged or supported by their parents and elders. As it becomes more socially acceptable, more people are turning to cosmetic surgery to enhance their bodies while theyââ¬â¢re still attending high school. They are working to construct the ideal form without giving their bodies a chance to finish growing. Many adolescents (and the parents that allow them to seek these types of surgery) donââ¬â¢t seem to realize that plastic surgery is still surgery. Surgery of any type can have significant physical and physiological risks, especially when performed on bodies that have not yet completed their growth cycle. Although some parents might argue that a child has definitely finished growing, doctors have reported sending

Web presence review. Evaluating web design Assignment
Web presence review. Evaluating web design - Assignment Example This paper will try to review the web design of Monsoon and demonstrate understanding of the theory and processes involved in the initiation, design and use of web sites in a business environment. It will evaluate and identify examples of best practice in the industry and apply them. Discussion Web Presence Web Presence is defined as the overall performance of a website and its programs or adopted strategies to sustain as well as maximize internet popularity and usefulness (Balwani, 2010). It is an indication of the maintenance and sustainability of an online business, shop, or an e-commerce entity. Monsoon (www.monsoon.co.uk) Monsoon claims to have about 600 Monsoon and Accessorize stores around the world. It was started in 1973 by a vendor named Peter Simon who sold shaggy woollen coats and block printed clothes from Rajasthan on the Portobello Road. The company background and history is short but the website provides a comprehensive detail about their store location, CSR program, terms and conditions of site use, complete and updated listing of products, online shopping, delivery information promo and free return policy, among others (Appendix B). Evaluating Web Design The Management Centre International Limited (2011) or MCIL provided 10 criteria or checklist in evaluating a website. While these criteria will not determine the overall web presence of a product, service or company, it provides the user with important information about how a company sustains web presence in its domain. It should be understood that a firmââ¬â¢s website is the ââ¬Å"most important piece of the businessââ¬â¢ web presenceâ⬠(Balwani, 2010, P 1). The checklist of evaluating the Monsoon website is as follows: 1. First Impressions. The first impression encompasses the intuitive choice for URL or uniform resource locator or web address which should be short and simple that fits perfectly on the characteristic of the firm. It should consider download time, thereby the capa bility of its host and size of homepage in order to minimize time in opening the page, or quick to download (Negrino, 2006; MCIL, 2011). The look and feel of the site is determined with its readability: clear and easy to understand with text and images in harmony (England & Finney, 2001). It should not be demanding such as asking for the viewer to download a program that will allow the reader to view the page. The page should be compact and fits the screen. The homepage should indicate immediately to the user its ââ¬Å"unique selling pointâ⬠or value proposition in order for the user to determine what is in store for him or her at the site. It should contain highly visible direct links to key action points or KAP in order to engage the user but at the same time, impart a feeling of ââ¬Å"wanting moreâ⬠so that the user will either stay at the page or site to explore, or come back again. Contact details are an important part of all websites to convey approachability, open ness, and a welcome feeling for the user (Mandell, 1997; MCIL, 2011). Many users will feel comfortable to establish trust, thereby, the site should indicate credential validation through certifications or associations. A statement from the management will provide the user an opportunity to know the vision and values of the company. It should not force users to register or subscribe in order to navigate as this will scare users away. After navigation, they will feel free to subscribe or register (MCIL, 2011, 2). Monsoon was able to accomplish majority of the first impression requirements although failed to immediately impart its message of unique selling poin

Overview of Japan music Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2750 words
Overview of Japan music - Essay Example The first writings and definitions of music have been depicted in the Nara period of 553-794 BC. This occurred because of a shift in government in which there was an order to change the social and intellectual character of both China and Japan. This was done by depicting the culture and the music in a way which could be traced and remembered for a specific intellectual character. The music that was developed into the 1700s was based on learning music through a sense of self mastery and by defining specific styles of playing that could be used for musicians (Trasher, 4). The 1500s It was during the 1500s that a transformation of Japanese music occurred from the traditional categories into new methodologies of understanding and playing music. Many of the instrumental concepts began to change and progress with new structures and sounds that were a part of the instruments. This was furthered by the influence from the open area of Japan that was connecting to the Western world and differe nt music of various regions of the world. This specific influence created a difference in the pitches, scales and the overall variety that was in Japan. Each of the types of music which were used traditionally began to expand with forms that carried on the tradition of Japan while progressing into styles that were interested by more Western influences. During this time, there was the ability to expand and change the poetry as well as the instrumental structures and ideals that were used for Japan. The characteristics then began to combine with musical form, pitch, timbre, melody and harmony used throughout Japan (Titon, Fujiie, 159). Historical Styles of Music... Japanese music has held long traditions and several musical styles throughout history. From the past musical styles and contemporary music are diverse ways of expression that are used for culture. Defining the various aspects of Japanese music also shows how the evolution of music has occurred in this country as well as what the perceptions are with the way in which this music is heard and performed. The discovery of Japanese music furthers the ideologies of theories within music as well as what is understood in terms of expression that is linked directly to the culture and society of Japan. The traditional music of Japan is known for its rich history and several styles. There are various types of music played for specific occasions as well as different categories which depict what is heard within the region. The music consists of solo music, chamber pieces, court music, festival and folk, theater music, percussion, epic singing and religious music. Each of these is developed either for occasions or to show a specific character that is a part of the surrounding culture and society while telling a story about a different element of society. The concepts that are associated with the music of Japan are diverse and include a continuous progression that is used within the culture. When examining the different styles of music, it can be seen that there have been several ways to hold onto traditions as well as to progress into contemporary music. The ancient types of music have been followed by several types and styles used for various means, specifically which were influenced by politics and culture that is in the region. This is followed by more contemporary trends that both incorporate the music as folk style while creating a different understanding of popular music that is causing Japan to move into alternative styles within society.

A critique of leadership and team management style in the light of Vip Essay
A critique of leadership and team management style in the light of Vip model and other current theories - Essay Example Few decades back, dynamics of a household were rigidly defined as father entrusted with the role of a bread winner, and the mother assigned to be the housekeeper. It was, most assuredly, regarded a womanââ¬â¢s duty to ensure that her husband and children were well taken care of. However, the shifting social, economical, and financial conditions, along with the increasing cost of living, has vastly evolved the thinking process, and has resulted, in many families, both parents working for livelihood. In addition, the deteriorating family structure, increasing poverty, and decreasing sense of security, has also resulted in children, from an early age, suffering from confidence and self-esteem issues. The severity of this situation can be realized from the fact that between years 2004 and 2008, eight hundred new children centers were inaugurated in UK and thirty percent of them were opened in extremely disadvantaged communities (Siraj-Blatchford and Manni 2007).This highlights the sig nificant role played by the nurseries and other early yearââ¬â¢s centers in the support and growth of their respective communities. If a center succeeds in providing a safe, secure, and a neutral learning environment to its children, it not only provides peace of mind to parents, but most importantly leaves an indelible mark on childrenââ¬â¢s lives, and molds them to become better individuals. As the beginning proverb hints, taking proper care of a child requires a collective effort, which can only be possible with appropriate leadership and guidance. Therefore, to run a successful early yearââ¬â¢s center, a manager is required to have certain specific attributes. My interview was based on three themes, which were Vision, Implementation/Operational, and People Manager/Team Management Skills of the managing practitioner. These themes were based on the ââ¬Å"VIP Model,â⬠which was proposed by Mark Hollingworth (2003, p. 34). According to Hollingworth, a true leader is i n fact a ââ¬ËVIP,ââ¬â¢ which stands for ââ¬ËVisionary, Implementer, and a People Managerââ¬â¢. These three primary leadership traits, in the light of other theories as well, will be mostly explored in this portfolio.
